Seminary Prom
Last night was our "seminary prom", the "Selah Gala." In the Psalms, the word "selah" means "pause," so it was created to be a fun night to "pause" and take a little break before the final crunch of the semester. Our student council did a fantabulous job of creating a memorable evening.
Most folks went with more formal attire, but when you are on Young Life staff, you have access to such incredible gear, so... my interpretation of "formal" was a little different than the rest...Here is a pic of Natalie and I with our friends Dong Sup and Hye Sun. We couldn't find Nat a sweet outfit like mine, but she wore a matching mullet wig that at least 2 people thought was her actual hair. This is a pic of Chris and I with Denver Seminary president, Craig Williford, after our karaoke performance. Here is us with Chris and his wife Becky.
Check out the Hottie dancing in the mullet wig and blue dress and black sweater in the 2nd row towards the right in this video...
In this video below, our seminary president, Craig Williford, forgets the words to his choice karaoke song, "Jesus Loves Me." Thankfully the ever faithful Dr. Randy McFarland is there to carry him through the chorus...If Dr. Williford actually ever reads my blog, I think I might have to take this video down or risk expulsion.
After dinner we had a Karaoke competition. My friend, Chris Shinnick, and I sang our own version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and included the names of all the Denver Seminary professors in the song. It was a little unfair because we were the only duet in the competition, but we did walk away with the championship and a $75 gift certificate to the Melting Pot! Double date baby! Here's the video, that probably won't be that funny to you unless you know the professors we were singing about, many of whom we're in the audience.
TOTAL ECLIPSE OF BUSCHART (Lyrics by Bonnie Tyler, Chris Shinnick, and Drew Hill) (Den Sem faculty in bold)
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I get a little bit lonely
and you're never coming round
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I get a little bit tired
of listening to Scott Wenig
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I get a little bit nervous
that Hellen Dallaire has gone by
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified
and then I see Don Payne in his eyes
Turnaround Groothius,
Every now and then I see Buschart (2x)
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I get a little Bruce Demarest
and I dream of Howard Baker
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I see Randy McFarland
and I'm lying like a child in his arms
Vernon Grounds
Sung Wook Chung and then I get a little bit angry
and I know I've got to get out and cry
Vernon Grounds
Every now and then I get a little bit Lindquist
but then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround Groothius
Every now and then I see Buschart (2x)
And I need you now tonight , And I need you more than Blomberg
And if you'll only hold me tight , We'll be holding on for Danny Carroll
And we'll only be making it right , Cause we'll never be Widstrom
together we can take it to the end of Bill Klein
Your love is like a Gingrich on me all of the time
I don't know what to do
McCormack’s in the dark
We're living in a powder keg
with Nancy Buschart
I really need you tonight …
Rick Hess is gonna start tonight
Cause Williford’s here tonight
Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
Jim Reitman is my friend
Robert Jones in my heart
Once upon a time there was no light in our lives
But now Elodies in our hearts
Nothing we can say
Dieumeme Noelliste of the heart
