Brokenness

This is sadly not a spiritual rambling about me being spiritually broken, but more of a “pity post” in regards to last night’s events. I broke my first bone. My left middle finger is in a mini finger cast. It looks like I’m just giving everyone I see “the bird.” It took thirty years, but now I can’t use “I’ve never broken a bone” as an interesting fact any more during “get to know you games.” Granted, it is sort of wimpy to break such a small bone as a middle finger, but last night it sure didn’t feel wimpy. Although Nat did drop the classic line after listening to my whimpering, “Drew, I hope you never get pregnant.” Me neither Nat. Seriously though, Nat has been a champ these last 9 days taking GREAT care of me during my “flu bug” and now “the wall incident.” It happened late last night while I was helping set up the chapel at school. We were putting the partition walls up that make the chapel smaller, you know, they look like this…

And I got going a little too fast and somehow, in my expert coordination, my finger got trapped between two of the walls when they shut. The guys on the “set up crew” with me came by later to check on me and this morning some folks saw it and said I needed to get some x-rays, and sure enough, if you look at the top of the x-ray, you can see how the tip of my finger bone is no longer attached…

I think the worst five things about breaking my middle finger so far have been:
5. It was a lot harder to catch a frisbee today at ultimate practice (I coach the Ultimate team at Arapahoe where I do Young Life)
4. When I turn my steering wheel my finger cast sticks out just far enough to always NAIL the turn signal lever or the wiper/lights lever, and the throbbing starts all over again.
3. No basketball tomorrow night. : ( One of the highlights of my week. I guess now I'll have to do my homework.
2. I just realized that I can't play guitar for a month. Wow. This is going to be a sad month, but maybe not so much for my apartment neighbors.
1. Typing this blog post. It took way to long. Just as 2 are better than 1, 10 is better than 9.

Thanks for your e-pity. drew

I am sending piles and piles of e-pity your way.

That X-ray about made me barf on my laptop.
